How I did it: It
really started with an accident, really. I put too much brown sugar in the recipe.
I was following the Toll House recipe...only the wrong one. But I liked it. I
also put more chocolate chips in mine. So I decided to keep the brown sugar
like that. But the dough was too thin. I added more flour. Finally, one
weekend, I sat down and wrote down ingredients. I made 5 half batches. I tried
it with cinnamon, without cinnamon, with milk, and without milk. I wanted to
add things to make it my own and to make it perfect. I wrote down notes as I
made the cookies and how they tasted afterwards. I marked the plates and got my
mom, who is a very good cook, to try them. And I narrowed it down to two: without the cinnamon and milk and then with
both those ingredients. But I didn’t think there was enough flour still and she
thought there were too many chocolate chips. A couple weekends after that, I
rewrote the recipe and made a half recipe again. This time they were perfect.
And I was sooo happy. I then tried it out on my French class. They loved it.
One guy asked me if there was coconut in it. But I told him it was the cinnamon.
I got high compliments from my mom. Trust me, she has been cooking since she was
a little girl. She doesn’t give out compliments like that. I’m very proud of
myself for making this recipe.
Lessons & tips: Basically just keep trying over and over again till the texture and taste is right. Always have a second opinon next to you. Don't worry if it turned out horrible. You're learning.

2 sticks of butter
2 eggs
1 ¼ cups dark brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp milk 3 cups of flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 ¼ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375F

Mix flour, sugar, salt,
baking soda, and cinnamon in a separate mixing bowl. Have the brown sugar
measured out and ready as well.

Cut softened butter into
3 or 4 chunks and put it in the mixer. Turn the mixer on low. After the butter
is slightly creamy, crack the two eggs and let it continue to mix on low. Add
the vanilla extract and milk into it. Then begin to add the brown sugar. Once
that is creamy, gradually add the mix of flour, sugar, baking sugar, and cinnamon.
Be sure to scrap bowl and get all ingredients mixed.
4.
Turn the mixer up to medium,
medium high, to get the dough a good texture. Stop after the dough has a good
fluffy texture. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Mix on low. When fully mixed, put
on ungreased cookie pan to bake for 15 minutes.
