How to be the type of friend who writes, calls, invites, compliments, and cares
It made me
feel appreciated. 
"A little thanks goes a long way."
How I did it: This was my first year away from home for Thanksgiving, and I was invited to a friend's house and was able to spend it with him, his wife, and his wife's family. After the holidays, I sent a thank you card that said, "Anyone who says 'there's no place like home' obviously has never stayed with you!' I got a text message from him a few days later thanking me for the card and telling me that it had made his wife cry!
