How I did it: I just went to various local shelters until I found a dog I thought would be a good fit. I made sure he met my dog first and that he was tested with cats. He did fine. It was a bit of an adjustment at first - he is a bit dominant and a little too curious about the cats sometimes. But he's super smart and a real lover. He gets along fine with my other dog and generally leaves the cats alone. And he loves to cuddle with me.

Lessons & tips: If you have other pets, make sure the new dog will get along with them. Be prepared to do some work with your dogs to get them in a good place together.
