How I did it: I installed Windows Vista and never installed MSN Live!I converted most of my friends to GoogleTalk instead.
GoogleTalk is just chat and VOIP and filetransfers, no extra fluff and stupid emoticons.
Lessons & tips: Just quit. There are better options
