How to manage a political campaign
"It was a challenging, exhausting, intense, actualizing, elating, depressing, significant, rewarding, unique experience"
How I did it: I took a special training in 2003 to learn the basics, then worked on two campaigns as a field coordinator before managing a primary for a city council candidate. That led to my selection to manage a state assembly campaign.
Lessons & tips: 1. Get formal training from Emily's List, or the DFA, or DNC or your state party.
2. Volunteer and get as much on-the-ground experience as possible.
3. Befriend political organizers and consultants.
4. Show up at party functions.
5. Be willing to work 24-7 for little pay and no guarantee of later rewards.
Resources: Democratic GAIN, Emily's List, the DNC, state party officials.
