How to go to the circus
How I did it: This isn't so much a "how-to" as a story to share my experience.
Just as I was going to bed, my friend IM'd me "Hey, want to go to an
underground punk circus?" and I was like "are you kidding me!" So I got
dressed in a flash and he picked me up and we went to Oaktown and it
was dirty and packed with kids my age and younger, so tight you almost
couldn't breathe, and when I finally got a glimpse of the stage there
were some hottie drag king clowns snapping flaming whips and humping
each others' legs. Then some clowns did a great routine about the "new
york sock exchange". Then there was a noise band, which was a REALLY
GOOD, well-done, noise band. They walked the perfect line of being
serious but making fun of themselves at the same time. Very self-aware.
Speaking of self-aware, the kids started moshing during the noise band,
but I have to say that they were the nicest moshers I have ever seen.
The whole crowd separated into the people who wanted to ram into each
other and people who didn't want to ram, and the rammers tried to
mostly ram into the other people who wanted to mosh. And they were
friendly, and inclusive, and I am so in love with them as a collective
whole. Then there were some fire spinners, then there was a main act of
this goblin and a dark knight having a duel around Santa's cookies... I
don't know I wasn't really paying attention because I was trying to get
pictures at that point. Anyway, then the fire dancers who were SMOKING
HOT, as you can see, and then they put poor ol' santa on a cross and
ate some red mushy stuff inside of him. Not sure what it was but it
looked gross. Then a rock n' roll elvis-y punk band, which ALSO was
amazing.
I giggled at Trey the whole way home about how great it was.
Well, you know, Joseph Campbell said to follow your bliss. Ok, if i have to!
