How to write a song
How I did it: My process includes first starting with an instrument, with nothing in mind. I play around for a bit until I find a tune that I like.
I feel the tune out and think about what it sounds like in my mind, what could this song be about?
Usually I will come up with something to write lyrics about, which comes AFTER singing random lines, lines from books, just singing sounds even. The words can come after that.
I usually end up coming up with the catchiest part of the song first, usually the chorus, so I write around that with some verses, and intro (which is usually a variation of the verses) and an outro.
I usually find myself putting a bridge or solo in after the rest of the song is done.
Lessons & tips: Don't get discouraged. Take a break if you don't feel anything coming on.
Record your whole writing process, that way you can easily go back to something you thought sounded good, or something you forgot. Also good for hearing back what you thought DIDN'T sound good. Because you never know if it will fit the song later.
