How to write a short story.
How I did it: I've had this on my list for a while, but last night I had an idea for a ghost story. Ghost stories used to be quite a tradition at Christmas time but I like to think this one owed more Hans Anderson than Charles Dickens.
Set in a fictional mountain town somewhere in Germany it tells the story of the Clock Maker's Daughter. It made me shudder when I thought of it and I managed to write a little under 7000 words in one sitting.
I really need a competition to enter it into as I am really pleased with it.
My parents said it was "brilliant" and "impossible to criticise". Given that my parents are disinclined to say that sort of thing unless they mean it I was very pleased indeed.

Good for you.
I have a rough draft of a VERY short story that I wrote in one day. I re-wrote/edited it once but still think it needs something else. Do you think I’m being too hard on myself? Does a “short-short” story need a twist?
