How to become a model by Ixiya

"One of the best things I've ever done."

How I did it: I made a profile on www.onemodelplace.com and www.modelmayhem.com (mayhem is way better) and added some photos I had taken of myself to start with. I contacted local photographers from there to ask them if they would like to shot with me. My first shoot was with HungryEye www.hungryeye.com and then I got to work with a few others. A year later I have a pretty dcent looking portfolio forming. Unfortunately I am oo short for fashion and runway, but there is always glamour and petite modeling for girls like me.

Lessons & tips: You have to put some effort into it, do your research and treat each meeting/shoot like its a job. Be on time, try to make a good impression, take criticism well, and always bring a friend along when meeting someone for the first time.

BTuesday in Chicago is having a GREAT day!

That’s so cool that you found a way to make that happen for yourself. I toyed with the thought of modeling but I am too short and probably not thin enough and definitely not plus size either so the most I would be able to do would be print work. Now I’m changing my hair to dreads so the shots that I do have do not reflect what I now look like. Your tips were very helpful though. Thanks and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey I just read this, and since this is a goal I’m attempting to persue I thought you would be the one to ask.
If I want to model for a place in the mall or a local shop or something, I was just wondering, who exactly should I talk to? Because I really want to persue this goal even if I can’t go into it professionally, which would be hard for me because I feel the pain of shortness too :) But I have this irrational fear that I’m going to ask the wrong person like the cashier or something (which I would do X) ) and they’re going to look at me like I’m an idiot and I won’t get any answers. So just asking…is there a desk I go to or numbers I can look up or anything? I’d REALLY appreciate the help. Thank you!

Wuui, I tried that one time, but with a German company in internet. Coz of my dreadlocks I got so many mails ‘Do you want a shoot with me as the photographer..?’... Suddenly I got jitters, I don’t look like a model, I can’t do this, I’m disappointing those photographers.. That was the end of my ‘career’.. :D Eeew, what was it I did wrong??
