How I did it: Two courses of action.
- I already knew roughly where it was (Ayrshire, Scotland) so I ordered some replica maps from the National Library of Scotland. Having trouble locating it (spellings change over the centuries), I emailed the Library and they were an amazing help!
- Booked a flight, rented a car, drove around lost for a couple of days until I found it (it's not a well known castle).
Lessons & tips: Just start... and don't be afraid to contact groups who are authoritative on the subject (i.e. the national libraries, museums, etc). Not a lot of people look into this stuff and I think they enjoy it. Also, follow up with a thank you after!
