How I did it: As an American living in Germany (whose German is pretty bad), I couldn't really take any cooking courses.  Instead I used the internet.  I searched for recipes on recipes.com and others, I watched cooking videos on the internet, and I stopped going out to eat and cooked dinner at home every night.

Lessons & tips: Use the internet, it's a great resource!  If you keep trying you WILL get better over time.

www.youtube.com  You can watch people cooking what you want to try and follow along with them in your kitchen.
