How to get CPR and first aid training with my son
How I did it: We signed up to take a class at our local volunteer fire department. The class included training and American Heart Association certification in CPR/AED/First Aid, and it lasted about six hours.
I hope neither of us ever has to use this training, but I'm glad we have it.
Lessons & tips: The first responder is in charge of the scene and needs to continue CPR until relieved by Police, Fire Department, or EMS. That means that, yes, a 12 year old can tell the school principal what to do - the principal cannot tell the 12 year old to stop and go back to class. Principals and teachers: Your job is to find the AED if needed, call 911, follow the kid's directions, and get the kid some help - FAST!
