How to reduce my environmental footprint
How I did it: My car got stolen Dec. 25th 2007 and I decided not to replace it. I was about to go out of town to Brazil so I had no need for one for three months and then while in Brazil I rode the bus, then continued to ride the bus upon my arrival back to San Diego. I do not miss it at all.
Lessons & tips: 1. Live and Work close together. If you cannot change your house, change your job. If you cannot change your job change your house. If you cannot change either then your stuck.
2. Purchase an electric bike. I have only charged mine once in about two months because I peddle so much... but I refuse to peddle if I do not know for a fact its optional - weird psychological problem that likely effects other parts of our lives as well.
3. Do not accept offers from friends to give you a ride etc..etc.. when it is out of their way. It ends up hurting the environment more and will cause a strain on your relationships with friends. They will offer because they may feel obligated, say no thank you and ride the bus - unless it is on their way anyway - if thats the case be ready and waiting for them - do not leave them waiting on you.
