How to visit guatemala
How I did it: Bought a ticket to Guatemala City on Priceline, bought a Lonely Planet Guide Book, and packed a backpack. That's literally ALL of the preparation we did.
We grabbed a taxi from Guatemala City straight to Antigua. So glad we did. Antigua is the perfect place to start and Guatemala City isn't that appealing. From there we got a handle on how to find places to stay and how to do transportation. With that down there was no stopping us.
Lessons & tips: Antigua is a perfect hub to start your travels. I would stay clear of Guatemala City. It's pretty much a big dirty city. Antigua on the other hand is a very hip touristy town that you can pretty much base most of your travels through and the perfect place to hang out.
Resources: We pretty much put our life in the hands of Lonely Planet Guide Book, and we were not let down. I wouldn't go down there without it.
