How to go to Mardi Gras
How I did it: I went twice, or three times as a young-in and had a blast. I dressed up every year, the one I remember in particular I was a queen with a crown, dress and cape. I was thrown a special parrot stuffed-animal that year!
Next year we knew someone on the camera crew, so we got a "box-office" which was a cage the cameras sat in and leaned over into the road where the floats were going by. We weren't as crowded and gathered buckets and buckets of beads because everyone would throw them at the cameras for a good show! Flashing is common, and I even remember it at that age (but didn't really care) but the best BEST part is the costumes. They are AWESOME! ...oh and the king cake :D
I was 5 and 6 years old.
Lessons & tips: Know someone who will be with the media, and join them if you can. The most crowded areas are not necessarily the best.
Resources: Dad being stationed in New Orleans for the Navy. I was 5 and 6 years old.
