How I did it: After a year of planning, wishing, scraping money together, and trying to make up my mind on what to buy, I ended up getting a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Reliable, good on gas, comfy.
I researched my options, checked out reviews, and compared prices.
Lessons & tips: Research the heck out of which cars you're interested in. MSN Autos is a good place to start. Figure out your budget before buying, factoring in warranty, taxes, insurance, gas, etc. Always test drive.
