How I did it: I cut my own hair, so it's easy enough to do a small trim or give myself layers if I want. The simple secret to getting crazy long hair is just to not cut it.

Instead of getting a new hair cut or style every few months like others, try learning new ways to plait or braid, wear ribbons etc.

When I really want a new hairstyle I try cutting myself a fringe rather than shortening my hair. It's been just over a year since I last had a hair cut, and I want to see how long my hair can get.

Lessons & tips:

• Don't brush your hair too vigorously - this will break strands of hair.
