How to invent a new calendar
How I did it: 365 days is one day more than 52 seven-day weeks. 52 weeks would correspond to 13 28-day months. In the Fischer Universalist calendar, that is precisely how the year is divided. Each month is named after the corresponding element of the periodic table (for example, today is the first of Hydrolun, after hydrogen-lunation. New Year's day is not a part of any month and is renamed Festivus. It is still a day of the week. The days of the week stay the same as in the current gregorian-derived calendar. Leap Years will be added according to the current rules, as well, but are inserted after Festivus, and are not a part of any month.
I printed out a few of these calendars, with appropriate photos alongside - TheHindenburg for Hydrolun, a recyling plant for Alumilun, a bin of toothpastes for Fluorolun, and so forth.
Does renaming the months make me a lunatic? If I began renaming the years, as well, would that give me solace?
Lessons & tips: No need for anyone else to do this, now I've done it. Drop me a line if you'd like an e-copy of mine!
