How to stay in a hostel
How I did it: I just spent some time searching the internet for hostels in Portland. I found one in the SE area which is where I wanted to go and I checked out their pics on the website and then called and made a 3 night reservation.
When I got into town, I accidentally wound up at the WRONG hostel but I was able to use their internet to figure out that I was just a few blocks away. Good thing, too, because the hostel I had reserved was much nicer.
Once I got checked in, I was appreciative of the fact that I wasn't alone much. It was nice to have other people to talk to and who I could go wander around with and whatnot.
I about had a heart-attack when I saw that the shower was practically in the kitchen but once I did it, it was fine.
Lessons & tips: Make sure you have sandals for the community shower! Be ready to be socialable!
