How to join the Peace Corps by Travis Hellstrom

"One of the best things I have ever done!"

How I did it:

  • I talked to a lot of Peace Corps Volunteers and decided that I wanted to apply and serve
  • I filled out my application, went through an interview and was nominated by my recruiter
  • I accepted my third invitation (after declining my first two on timing and preference)
  • I left and started serving in Mongolia in May 2008

Lessons & tips:

  • Fill out your application quickly, don't get so tied up in it that you wait forever to turn it in
  • Be very patient and flexible, it will take time before you get in and you will have to wait some
  • Ask other Peace Corps Volunteers all the questions you might have, they are eager to help you out and give great advice
  • Check out some tips that I wrote out for applicants

I really love the way you organize and convey information. Your how to join the peace corps and your blog, yes i’m a an occasional reader, inspire me to present my thoughts in a reader-friendly format! I can’t wait to be sworn in as a peace corps volunteer and write my own, how to join the peace corps, post. I wish i could say the same about writing a blog, but i know myself.
