"Brushing up can never hurt"
How I did it: I am a self taught guitarist. Studied piano for years, played flute for years, I'm a vocalist.... tried my hand at violin.... jack of many instruments, master of NONE! So I decided it was time to get myself into lessons.
I am extremely motivated to perfect the craft for a couple of reasons. I am playing guitar now with a VERY talented guitarist and his bass player friend. I am the worst player of the bunch so I need to get up to par! And.... we will be playing out within a few months so it's important for me to once again sound professional as I have in the past...
So I started asking around and looking in phone book and googling guitar lessons in my area. I asked them if I could do a trial lesson to see if I mesh well with the teacher before I committed to a month and it was agreeable.
What I learned in a 30 minute lesson convinced me... if I could even learn 1/2 of that each time, I'll be in good shape.
Lessons & tips: Try your teacher on for size before you commit.
Set aside at least 3 hours a week in between for personal practice... AT THE BARE MINIMUM! : )
