How to go to the gym regularly
How I did it: I don't technically go to a gym. A friend of mine got me started on Kung Fu. Specifically Hun Gar which is, i'm told, the most difficult branch.
I've always wanted to do something that fit me when I was younger. Be like the other girls. Ballet, gymnastics, girl scouts. But none of those things ever stuck with me. they always petered out. I made the effort but something in the universe was telling me no. So, I waited.
Then I started to get big into martial arts. The history, the movements. Tom boy that I am. Two older brothers is a big influence. I would make a list of styles I wanted to learn. Bah, going to the gym. I wanted to do something fun.
So, I turned twenty one and still hadn't done anything with it. Then a friend of mine. A really close friend said he started this kung fu. It was so close. He asked the coach if I could come to see the practice, see if I wanted to do it. Not one of those "schools" where you sign a contract and the rush you through the belts. Oh no. This coach learned from a real kung fu master, was still learning. and he didn't give belts until he thought you where ready. No contracts, just a hand shake.
It was perfect. thin is nice, downsides and upsides, but toned and skilled enough to throw a guy twice my size? that's a real work out.
Lessons & tips: If your going to start working out, pick something you enjoy. Something that you'll be proud to work hard on and will make you smile every time you look in that mirror.
working out in any form should make you love yourself more with each passing class and leave a lasting impression on you. Not just a milestone.
