"first it felt forced, now i can recognize very early stages of dehydration, and the difference between hunger and thirst, which most people get confused!"
How I did it: i kept a little diary, where i had to check off all 8 glasses of water i had to drink every day. it was difficult at first, because all your body wants to do is pee every few minutes. after a while it learns to retain it better so your bladder doesn't feel quite so burdened.
its easier to start drinking more water in the summer when its natural to want to refresh yourself. in the winter its all about herbal teas for me. for every coffee or alcoholic drink i try to compensate with the equivalent of another glass of water.

however, although water is really good for you, the pH of most tap and bottled water is acidic, whereas your body needs more alkilinity (the majority of the world's diet is highly acidic). it is my strong conviction that the body absorbs water better through eating fruits and vegetables (most of which are alkaline), or the alternative is to adjust the pH of your water. i usually add at little baking soda (which is very much an aquired taste), but lemon juice does the trick too.
