How to build my website
How I did it: I decided I didn't have the time or the skills to do this myself, so I researched and hired a professional designer.
While I was doing this, I came up with a rough outline of what I wanted in a site. This included content, number of pages, and a general idea of what I wanted it to look like
Lessons & tips: Find websites you like and note who designed them. Then go to the sites of those designers and view their portfolios and read about their processes.
When you select a web designer it helps to have an idea of what you want to achieve. At the same time it also helps to keep an open mind so that you can take advantage of the person or company's creativity. The design I ultimately chose was nothing like what I had initially envisioned, but it was fantastic!
An important word of caution: A true professional doesn't come cheap. However, if you are looking to build a business-related site, it's worth the cost.
Another important tip: It will take a lot more time than you expect, even if you hire someone.
