"Getting up early is satisfying and creates a feeling of opportunity rather than disdain for my day. "
How I did it: My real goal changed from waking up 5:30 am to waking up before 5:30 am, so I have 6 alarms. Two cell phones and an alarm clock. One cell phone is old and the only thing that works on it is the alarm, and then I have my current cell phone alarm. I set three different alarms at about 10-15 minute intervals on my old phone, one alarm on my current phone. I place one phone on the bed next to my head, the other phone on the floor next to the bed, and I put the alarm clock in the closet, and leave the door open so I can hear it. That way I have to get up to turn it off.
Lessons & tips: Setting an early appointment helps, or for me it was my new job that requires me to be awake before 5:30. Tell yourself that you have something good waiting for you too. The thought of a yummy breakfast usually makes me want to get out of bed.
Resources: Old cell phones, alarm clocks, delicious breakfast foods, LOTS of coffee, Red Bull.
