How to become Combat Lifesaver Qualified
"Lots of good stuff covered, and I am glad to have the equipment."
How I did it: It is supposed to be a 40 hour class, but we skipped a few things. Its training on how to give basic medical aid in a tactical environment. You are required to go through mock injury scenarios, and also administer an IV.
Lessons & tips:
- Any severe injury to an extremity, put a tourniquet on it.
- Use a flutter bandage on sucking chest wounds.
- Do not preform CPR unless the casualty you are preforming it on is the only serious casualty in the area
- In case of serious blood loss, it may be necesary to administer an IV in the field to keep the casualty from going into hypovolemic shock
- STOP THE BLEEDING, almost everything else can wait until casevac.
