How to get a job
How I did it: The main obstacles to getting a job, for me, are usually procrastination and lack of motivation. So, in an attempt to take away all of the excuses and distractions that I would usually set in my own path, I made the decision to treat getting a job as my employment until I found the paid kind.
This meant getting up early enough to have breakfast, exercise, meditate (my regular morning stuff, substitute as required) and still start the job-hunting at 9am. If I was really losing momentum I would give myself a break, and I had lunch breaks, but I made sure to keep at it otherwise.
I applied for every job I could see myself being prepared to do, even the ones that didn't sound too exciting. Since I wasn't applying for anything especially skilled or prestigious, I figured that quantity was more important than quality and didn't spend more than half an hour on any one cover letter. (Otherwise, I am quite capable of agonising over one for an entire day).
Lessons & tips: Make a commitment to yourself and then stick to it. Decide what constitutes a reasonable amount of job-hunting for a day, and don't accept excuses from yourself. At the same time, don't push it so hard in the beginning that you feel burned out and give up after a day or two.
