How to learn to play the viola
How I did it: In the sixth grade, I was told I had the perfect fingers to play the viola, and that I wasn't suited for band. I picked up the viola and played for three years. Honestly, I was horrible at it, but I was just a kid and I never practiced.
I went to orchestra camp, met a lot of people that I would not have met otherwise, and learned how to make music. I learned in school and didn't have the luxury of having private lessons.
I gave it up when I changed schools and realized that there were other opportunities. Still, I don't regret it. It was a way for me to expand my horizons and learn to appreciate a style of music I thought I didn't like.
Lessons & tips: Don't give up! It's a fun instrument, even though it has it's quirks.
