Good advice on taking somebody with you. I had lasik surgery years ago with my dad and brother. Going out of the buildling, we were the blind leading the blind. Literally.

How I did it: Fly to Bangkok, Thailand. Go to Bumrumgrad Hospital, which is more like a 4 Star Hotel than a hospital, check in, pay (was a little over a thousand dollars whe I did it). Hey presto, Bob's your uncle, new vision, new life.
No more scrabbling for spectacles in the morning.
No more squinting during sports.
Wear cheap sunglasses because you can.
Lessons & tips: Take somebody with you - if you do both eyes together, you will basically be blind for a day or two.
