How to become pescatarian
How I did it: When I was in the hospital, I was given pounds and pounds of red meat. I think that's what initially forced me to stop eating all of it. Think 10 days of being in the hospital, three meals a day, three meals of meat, meat, meat.
Because I still have such a huge affinity for sushi, I can't cut it out of my system just yet. It's been four months since I've stopped eating red and white meat, but it's been the best four months of my life yet - eating wise. True, I may be "missing out" on such foods, but I've already tried a lot of very expensive and fatty foods. I don't think too much of them.
Shopping at more organic grocery stores help a lot. Reading up on the benefits of eating healthy as well as reading all the bad things about eating meat can really help you and encourage you to eat with a different set of eyes. I search around on google and yelp for vegetarian places and because there's such a large number of people in my particular city, I'm able to find a good base search for eating out, vegetarian style.
Honestly, I don't miss eating meat at all. I'm getting healthier, little by little, because I've scrapped eating fast food, junk food (most of these things are deep fried with animal fat), and meat (which is high-caloric and is either high in high blood pressure or some cancer).
Lessons & tips: If you love meat, slowly just stop eating one type a week. Cut out the ones you don't eat, as that will be easiest. For the meat that you eat most often, take a few weeks instead of a week to help desist eating. Find other meaty vegetables to help sustain you, like tofu or mushrooms.
