How to get a tattoo
How I did it: Before I go any further, yes, I was sober. Like I said, I spent years planning, and it wasn't something I just did on a whilm. (is that the right word?) And I designed it myself, so it symbolizes me as an artist as well as a lot of other things (free spirit, earning my wings, etc...it's a butterfly, by the way).
Lessons & tips: I won't lie: it hurts, so be prepared. And design it yourself! I see a lot of people on Miami and LA Ink who use others artwork (particularly Amy Brown's fairies) for their tattoos and I think, "You know there's a handful of other people running around out there with the exact same tattoo, right?" I mean, I'm mortified if I just see someone out in public wearing the same shirt as me. What I'm saying is, make your tattoo unique and your own, you know? And make sure you're 100% sure that you really, really want one. It won't wash off in the tub!
