How I did it: I had a few pointers from my Mom, who sewed all my clothes when I was a kid. I also took a very basic sewing class at our college, and took on several projects on my own. I am now confident that I can work out any problems I may encounter, given time and patience. The outcome is worth how you feel at completing an item alone, but the compliments you get over a unique piece of clothing make it even better!

Lessons & tips: Read. There's tons of good resources out there, from books to blogs, that will help you understand the terminology you'll find on patterns. And don't be afraid to experiment either!
