How to find a new place to live
How I did it: I sold my condo (one of my 43 things), and couldn't decide where to live in Chicago. So, I decided to put things in storage and travel for a few months, fully intending to return to Chicago.
After two months travelling, I realized I hadn't given a single thought about returning to the Windy City. I'd realied how much happier I was being in places with less traffic, less violence, more open spaces, friendlier people. Without realizing it, I'd decided to make Arizona my new home. I've never been happier!
Lessons & tips: Be open minded. If someone had told me I'd be moving to Arizona a year ago, I would have called them insane. Yet, here I am.
I'd also recommend really evaluating what you love/hate about your current situation. For me, when I left it was because of noisey neighbors, lots of traffic clogging the neighborhood, aggravating commute, and needing a bigger space. When I started looking for other places to live in Chicago, I realized I was going to have those issues anywhere I moved in the city. It was shocking to realize it wasn't my house that made me crazy, but the city.
Resources: Hokey, but listen to your inner voice. If you find yourself drawn to an area or specific place, follow that instinct.
