How to stop drinking by Josh

How I did it: My Higher Power (God), AA, this site, and an awesome support network of some great people.  *(I should add here I didn't have ANY of those people that formed my "awesome support network" when I started this goal but I had to create it from asking and looking for help.  I wanted to add this because I know EXACTLY what it feels like to feel like you are all alone in this and it is an empty feeling!  Please ask for help!) I got to a point that I refused to accept any reason for allowing me to continue destructive behaviors.  After I had been able to attain my own sobriety, helping others was monumental to keep my sobriety safe.  Carrying the message to other alcoholics or addicts of any sort not only brings fulfillment to see others beat their personal difficulties but it also helps protect my own sobriety and holds me accountable. 

Lessons & tips: Humble yourself enough to ask for help from anyone, anything, any group that is willing to help.  Pray if you believe.  Pray if you don't believe.  It cannot hurt.  Be thoroughly and rigorously honest with yourself.  Resolve any personal resentments or personal issues in your life and become someone who is comfortable in their own skin. After you find your own sobriety, use your newly acquired skills to help others.

You are entirely correct! It isn’t my coin, yet. God willing it will be one day though. Yup, I only have 6 months and 11 days as of today. I just used that picture from images I searched on AA because I was trying to find a coin where the phrase “TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE” was easy to read on the coin. When I posted this, I only had 4 months and 20 days to be more precise for full disclosure.

Sorry I used the word only. 6months is great. Good job. Bout 6 times longer than I have ever made it and I’ve been going at it for a while.

Thanks! Keep at it and never give up. I don’t know if you reached your hand out for help but that is what definitely made the difference for me. I tried and failed many times on my own before and it was hell!
