How to buy a new cellphone
How I did it: Seriously guys, I'm not joking when I say it literally took me about 5 years to get a new cellphone.
In my freshman year of high school my dad got me a Siemens C45 - very popular at that time. It was a small, yet heavy phone that I'd carry around with me everywhere. I held on to it for about 3 years when I started to become sick of it. I saw my friends owning the newest cellphones and other gadgets, when I was stuck with this piece of s**t. You get the point. But the problem was: I was such a picky person with no job. And my parents had bigger things on their mind than getting me a new phone when they thought mine was doing just fine. So my dad always told me: "Why would you get a new phone? What's wrong with the one you got now? You can make a phone call that's the only thing that matters."
Yes Dad, I can make a phone call alright after I knock on the back 3 times (because the battery fell out again) hold the little red button for ages when finally the ugly orange screen pops up and let's me enter my friend's digits that I have to search for in the packed phonelist I have on that 'heavenly' phone.
I was always ashamed of pulling my cellphone out of my pocket to call someone. I would always hang my hair in front of it so no-one would notice my old celly. The worst part was when someone actually tried to call me and the oldschool ringtone would go off. Yeah, it was like starting up a new game of Super Mario.
"Some thing you got there. Let's call it mister fridge." My bff would say.
See? I'm not kidding when I said I really, truly needed a new phone.
So one day, at the age of 18 (meaning after 5 years of owning Mr. Fridge) I saw my new love in a Dutch magazine alongside an amazing offer: I could get a T-Mobile subscription paying only 10 euros a month for a '10-cents-sms-bundle' with 200 minute callingtime and on top of that a brand new Samsung J-700 Topaz Gold edition and even a free bluetooth headset. I would have to go online and enter my personal data. I showed it to my dad and he was all like: "That's a great deal! Go get it right away!" So I didn't know how fast to type in my adress and stuff and click the send-button.
After exactly 2 weeks the mailman came at the door with my little package! My brother got the same cellphone, so he also came at the door to get his. I was so thrilled! After opening the box I held on to my new cellphone for like 5 minutes without putting it down. The color 'Topaz Gold' was amazing. A light brownish color with a pinch of pink in it. Lovely! After reading all the manuals (yes, thumbs up for me) I decided to turn on my phone and check it out. I was so used to my old phone that it took me a while to figure the stuff out, but I got it eventually :).
P.S. Mind my Dutch to English translation of some words.
Lessons & tips: Don't wait too lang with purchasing a new celly! And pick wisely if you're going for a subscription (I don't know if I'm translating subscription correctly) since you get stuck to it for 2 years, for example, like I do.
