How I did it: Whenever I was bored the first think I would think to do to save me of boredom was to go shopping, terrbile idea.  before I knew it I was had a slight debt on my credit card and had no money in my bank account.  I am a college student, I can not afford to go out shopping all the time (Mom and Dad don't giv eme money) so I had to learn to just stop buying on the impluse.
I ask myself before adventuring anywhere, do I really need to go there, or do I really need this? The answer is usually no.  Just because you want it doens't mean you need it.
To stop myself form making purchases I simply didn't bring any credit cards or money with me when I went out.  I usually brought about $5 in case I had to stop to get soemthing to eat, but that was it.
You need to realize what is important to pay for, things like bills...things that you need to do, shopping is not one of those needs.
