How to adopt something
How I did it: He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. If you don't own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life. We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.
Lessons & tips: I began my search with the intentional of buying a french bulldog
puppy, but one night I was directed to Petfinder.com. Until that
night, I was unaware of the magnitude of homeless animals in the United
States, and once I began my search, my eyes were opened. Literally
MILLIONS of pets - of all shapes, sizes, breeds, temperaments, and
personalities - are waiting for their forever home. In every city in
every state. They don't ask for much, just a soft bed, a warm home, a
loving master. After I realized just how many animals were waiting for
a home - some in dire situations - I knew there was no way I could
justify BUYING a puppy, and I would adopt. For every dog adopted from
a shelter or a rescue group you save multiple lives. When you adopt
you open up a space for another dog to be fostered or brought to the
front of the shelter for adoption.
Adopting Rocky was an
amazing experience. It gave me such a sense of joy to know that I
could give this little creature a new life. Every day when I come home
from work I see the gratefulness in his face ... he's so happy to have
food, a little bed, toys, and a person who loves him. Even on my worst
day, when I come home and see that little tail and he leaps 4 feet in
the air with joy - I can't help but share in the joyfulness.
