How I did it: I took the PHR prep course (sponsored by SHRM) that was offered at the local college. The six modules came with a CD of questions and case studies. I answered every question at the end of each chapter in the modules, every question on the disk, and all the questions my instructor came up with on her own for our class. Then I forked over an additional $70 (what's another $70 at this point?) and took the two online assessment exams offered on the SHRM website.

When the assessment exams tally, they give you a breakdown of how well you did answering the questions as specific to each module. I went back and re-read the two modules that I scored lowest.

After all that, I felt I was as prepared as I could get. I didn't study at all the day before the exam and got a good night's sleep.
