How to watch streetcar named desire
How I did it: Watched it little by little in English class along with the book. The cuts in between each session were well worth it. I needed to get out of the class, breathe, look at people's faces and see them politely smile back at me.
Not all humans are selfish smelly sweaty old men.
Phew.
Lessons & tips: From a student's point of view, the play and film are very instructive. The text is highly descriptive and so well written that you can nearly feel the heat around you. The heat of New Orleans, the heat of males, the heat of females...
Perhaps you would also enjoy A Streetcar Named Desire for some other reason. But I didn't.
I'm a Rom-Com type of person. I like Scy-Fi, action, adventure. This is a slow moving story, with very unattractive characters, set in a heavy atmosphere. If only the ending had been slightly different, perhaps I would not feel so bad about it.
Resources: My English Teacher, without who I would have completely passed over the rich text only to look at the story.
My Family, without who I would have punched my Teacher for making us read and watch such a tragic story.
