How to trace my family tree back at least 6 generations
How I did it: I had a little bit of information that a family member had already gathered from a couple libraries and from relatives. I took that and ran with it. I went to town with every single one of those family ties and found out whatever I could. I read books, researched on the Internet, spoke to other people who may be interested in my same family tree... etc. I'm still in the process, and probably will be until the day I die.
Lessons & tips: Realize that you WILL hit a brick wall, but don't let it get you down. Try another route. Visit the town/state/country's libraries or city halls if you can. Don't be afraid to talk to strangers in the genealogy world - we're all in it together!
Resources: Ancestry.com, relatives, books, various other websites pertaining to specific geographical locations and their histories, library resources, etc.
