How I did it: I took a tour with Reykjavik Excursions while on vacation in Iceland. We took a tour bus outside of the city until we got to an area without street lights. Pulled to the side of the road and got out. It was so cold and windy. The first aurora appeared and it was faint and blue, but still amazing. I tried to photograph it but was unsuccessful. The wind was blowing colder and harder than I have ever experienced. We got back into the bus to warm up and another person on the tour called us back outside. A huge aurora had appeared, bright and strong, with blues and greens. It was waving and swirling. The beauty of it all made the whole miserably freezing night worthwhile and makes me understand why people can live in that climate. The Northern Lights are just that breathtaking.
