How to walk on the Great Wall of China
How I did it: I spent 4 days walking on the Great Wall of China in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK.
The first day was a very ruined part of the wall and was very rough and challenging.
The second and third days were on steep and challenging sections of the wall.
The fourth day was on the most touristy part of the wall which was renovated in 1984 and even had handrails! This section meant we had to walk up 1,050 steps to get to the wall. Once on the wall we reached the the Heavenly Stairway which is about 450 steep steps. It was challenging as it was raining on this day so very slippy.
Lessons & tips: Good sturdy walking boots are required if you are going to do more than just the touristy bit - in our 4 days we covered about 60km in total.
Resources: I went there through a UK based company called Charity Challenge.
