How to be in a band
"If you really want to be in a band, make sure everyone has one thing on their minds..."lets get things DONE""
How I did it: Over the summer of 2008 I wrote 4 songs on an acoustic guitar. After I figured out how I was going to sing them I invited my long time friend and drummer to work on them with me.
He started playing drum parts with the songs and the ball started rolling. Using some basic recording equipment we recorded demo versions of the 4 songs on my computer. We didn't spend much time on them at all but it got the general idea and most importantly the structure of the song documented.
Later on my friend wanted to play bass with us and I emailed him the demo songs and tabs/chords to him. That was it a band was formed.
We got a gig at a local venue and practiced (for the first time all 3 of us together) the afternoon of the gig. After we practiced we drove to the venue and played.
We are currently working on our 2nd CD together check us out.
Lessons & tips: Have a leader.
Collaboration is great, but with all the egos and inputs it takes up a lot of time. and you really should spend more time getting your name out there than worrying about if you should use another verse or chorus in a song.
This can be very tedious and time consuming, leaving everyone feeling pretty discouraged and not as excited about being in the band anymore.
