How to have my own magazine
How I did it: When I was a pre-teen, around 9-14 AOL was really popular and the only form of e-mail. I was in the "Kid's Only" section and made friends. I decided that I wanted to start a pre-teen magazine with fashion, advice, beauty, make-up... silly girl stuff to overcome boredom and if you remember, Kid's Only on AOL was very limited. So I started a little news letter online, through e-mail. It eventually turned into an online magazine which I called *snazzy magazine*... before I knew it, I was the editor of a weekly magazine that had over 10,000 subscribers. I also held contests and had sponsors, such as Steve Madden before it was "really big". It kept me out of trouble. It was a ton of work, and a lot of people are really critical of your work, so you need to develop tough skin and realize you cannot cater to every reader's needs. It's very time consuming coming up with the content and lay outs, so I eventually had to give it up. I miss it though and loved doing it more than anything.
Lessons & tips: Don't give up -- be unique, something that isn't out there. Cover interesting topics. Value the reader's opinions and use them. Have a lot of time to dedicate, you sort of need to be a perfectionist.
Resources: Myself. I don't really have anything else.
