"Google online search lead me to a free website to name a star."
How I did it: I admit I liked the idea of naming a star after seeing the movie "A Walk to Remember." I mistakingly assumed that there was a way to officially name a star with all of the stars being discovered. However, after reading some information from the IAU (International Astronomical Union) I learned that all stars are named using a number system. They compared it to finding a John Smith in the US versus finding a John Smith when you know his social security number. So, after that brief letdown, I searched for a free online registry since it didn't make any sense to pay a "charlatan registry" as the IAU called it. I ended up naming my star and now have a little printed certificate so I can say "I named a star" even though it wasn't what I thought it would be.
