How to improve my self-esteem
How I did it: The older I get, the more I realize that I don't care if people judge me.
I remind myself constantly that I'm as much a human being as the next person, that no matter how low I feel, there is always someone battling something more profound than I ever probably could, that there ARE people who love and care about me, despite all the things I think are "wrong" with me, and they tell me this on an almost daily basis...maybe not always in the things they say, but in the way they look at, talk to and think of me.
I have distanced myself from the person who damaged me the most - my own mother. She not only made me feel poorly about myself, but she pushed my blood pressure to the limits. Now I see her on MY terms... Ironically, I have a prescription for anxiety meds (lowest dose possible) and the ONLY time I ever use them is when I have to be around her. Sad, but necessary...
Lessons & tips: Realize that we're all on the same planet, we all bleed the same color, and we're all as human as the next person.
