How I did it: Well, for starters, I feel like my cable company is the devil. The idea that I only have one choice for cable tv or internet is preposterous, and goes against the very nature of a free market economy. Said company has, in the past 2 years, slowly raised my monthly rate for the same services from about $65 to $90. And then today, I open up the cable bill to see that the same plan has jumped to a painful $130.

Ouch.

I had decided back in December to cut the cable altogether and go with an internet-only plan, but the only option would have cost me more for just internet than I was paying for both tv and internet. So, today's sudden $40/month spike made me decide that cutting the cable was once again a top priority.

I called back again, and found out that with basic cable (the old 22-channels package) with internet would get me back down to a $60/month plan! Score! The uninstallers will be here in two days.

Lessons & tips: Be very patient, and expect to spend a lot of time on hold. This was my fifth phone conversation with about my 15th phone operator in the past month or so.
