Kavalier and Clay is super fun, isn’t it? Awesome goal, I love it. Congrats on finishing!

Congratulations on finishing the project!

I also found 43T while in on frustration-bender over literature. I’ve been working on the 1001 book list trying to read one book by each author in the book (ends up being like 450 which is a little more doable than 1001). I’ll be at it forever, but I’ve definitely discovered a lot of authors I like that I would never have read otherwise.

I so thoroughly enjoyed the A-Z Author Challenge that I’ve started over … am working on a Margaret Atwood book as my “A” author.

I have looked at that 1001 book list (I’m assuming we mean the same list by Peter Ackroyd!). While I am sure every book on that list has its merits, I decided I was happier with my freedom of choice … the little bit of structure imposed by A to Z authors, and even the little bit of structure I imposed on myself by choosing only novels my first time through, were enough to make it challenging but still fun.

Enjoy reading your 450 authors!

Interesting synchronicity happened this evening: My daughter, a junior in high school, is reading Another Country by James Baldwin. This is the book that I read as a junior in high school, and it is THE book that made me formulate my Rule of One Hundred Pages. As of today, she is just past page 100, and she said, “I can’t believe it! I just don’t know what’s going to happen next!” I won’t spoil the plot for anyone who hasn’t read Another Country. But her reaction reminded me once again how books can deepen or change, once you get past the first chapter or two; it reminded me why I made up this rule for myself, at the tender age of 16. Suspend judgment and just keep on reading.

KayBellKnitter has gotten 13 cheers on this entry.
