How I did it: I didn't want to go just ANYWHERE. Considering I have absolutely no idea about hair at all, I decided that I'll dish out the extra cash and go to somewhere really good.
I found the place, which I had seen before, and I rang them up. They were really friendly, and I booked an appointment for payday.

I arrived and they gave me some forms to fill out so I could tell them about my hair. I told them that it was very dry and I have problems with dandruff, and I was a lifeguard, so that meant I was in the sun and swimming in water with some nasty chemicals in it.

They asked me for my favourite colours, asked if I was interested in a fringe, and asked me if there was anything in particular I wanted. Because I didn't know what would suit me, the lady decided that it shall be a surprise.

They gave me a drink and some snacks, they got to work, making a little small talk here and there, but let me stare at what they were doing to me. They put the colour in and left me with a magazine for awhile.
Then they washed it out, and I was feeling okay about the result.
But then she decided it needed more cutting!
She snipped away, and I watched as the hair that I had my whole life become something completely different.

Once she was done, she complimented me greatly, and booked me in for another session.
I left to go show all my friends the new me. They were all very surprised and said I looked wonderful.

It boosted my self-esteem and gave me some much needed confidence. Especially since I was going on a holiday in a few weeks, I felt that I was ready to go out and have a good time.
It's definantly worth the many dollars I spent. Whoever said money can't buy you happiness obviously hasn't had a new haircut!

Lessons & tips: Go and find a good expensive hairdresser (or Hair Stylists, I was told...). If you just go to some little cut shop around the corner, it could turn out badly...I've only heard bad stories about places like that. If you fork out the extra and go to somebody who can give you a look that will suit you, but modify it around what you want, then it's totally worth it.
