How to learn to play tennis
How I did it: The only reason it took me three months is...well lets just say I'm a sloooow learner.
It all started when my sister decided, spur of the moment, to join the tennis team with her friends. Tryouts being a month away she needed to learn how to play. My dad knew how to play so offered to teach her, and I tagged along. The thing is my dad works allot so he gave us about 4 lessons. Thankfully there is a tennis court near our home! We went every day, my sister was very determined to be as good as the rest of the girls, who by the way had been playing since they were like seven and they had private instructors!
At first every ball flew out of the court, sometimes setting off a car alarm. But after the first week we got a grasp of aiming.
After my sister got on the team she practiced with her couch and at home.Teaching me what she learned. So I became familiar to that many rules. All in all it was fun but very exhausting!
Lessons & tips: Make sure you have tennis rackets, ask an expert. You need a different size depending who you are.
Tennis balls, shoes and and shorts with big pockets to hold the balls.
If you are playing in the sun get sunglasses or a hat.
WATER! It's very important, the first few times I played with my sister we got dangerously dehydrated!
Learn with a friend, It'll be more fun. You won't feel bad because you'll both suck! And you learn faster when you are being competitive!
And lastly, I recommend you hire someone to teach you. Even though I didn't. You'll learn faster and the correct way to play.
Don't get discouraged, have fun!!!
